Green-Eyed Lily

A filk by Sandy Diersing to the tune of Sugarloaf's Green-Eyed Lady

Pretty small one, green-eyed girl child,
Getting letter long ago
Starting lessons, quick proud witchling,
Learning every single charm they'd show
Green-eyed Lily, James' fancy
Wise in love, she sees him too clearly
Old-souled Lily sees a James still yet to be
She rebuffs him, then waits so patiently

Green-eyed lady, magic's lady
Knows the spells, the charms, her wand
Heartstrong Lily, James' lady
Makes of magic, one strong bond
Brave young woman, Harry's mother
Armed with love, she lives but so briefly
Green-eyed Lily feels pain we've never seen
Saves her son but leaves him so lonely.

Miss Evans and I

A filk by Nelsongirl to the tune of The Wizard and I from Wicked

LILY is writing in her diary in the Gryffindor Common Room. JAMES is standing outside, eavesdropping.

LILY:
Dear Diary,
I have been apathetic
I've been letting my schoolwork slide
I know that I should be studying now,
But I can't deny
My heart's desire
When James Potter's being stupid,
I glare at him angrily
But the truth is, I think he's quite cute
And very funny
But I don't think that he
Even thinks of me

LILY goes upstairs to the girls' dormitory and JAMES enters the Common Room.

JAMES:
Did that really just happen?
Did Miss Evans actually see
What a perfect couple we'd make and that
We are so meant to be?
But to win her over
I must use charm
So I'll use charm

When I see Miss Evans
I'll take my Snitch out
And once she makes eye contact,
I will throw the Snitch and- and wow!
When flies away from me
I will catch it every time
And Miss Evans will be impressed
By those Quidditch skills of mine-yes
She'll say to me, "You'd look so great on a broom
Looking for the Snitch in the sky."
And that's how we'll begin
Miss Evans and I

Once I'm with Miss Evans
My life will be great
'Cause once you're with Miss Evans
There's no room for hate
No Snivellus will anger you
No teacher makes you bored
And all of Hogwarts will envy you
That such a girlfriend you have scored
And that wonderful glow I'll have inside
Won't go away if I try
When we are hand in hand
Miss Evans and I

And one day I'll say to her, "Lily,
A girl who is such a treasure,
There should at least be a man in the world
Who deserves such a pleasure
And the chance is little, I do agree,
That I have won such a lottery
But still, will you make the stride
To be my lovely bride?"
And though my speech will be phrased to awkwardly,
"Of course, my love!" she'll reply
Oh, what a pair we'll be
Miss Evans and I
Yes, what a pair we'll be
Miss Evans and…

Our wedding day
I clearly see our wedding day
It'll be the best wedding anyone has ever seen
I know
We're not even dating
It might be hopeless waiting
But I clearly see the scene
Of my friends beaming happily
And Snivellus turning green!

And I'll stand there with Miss Evans
Feeling happy without bounds
And though I'd never do it,
I would want to jump around
And that day will be the best day of my life
If from happiness I will not die
With soaring self-esteem
When people see us they will scream
For half of this school's favorite team:
Miss Evans and I!

If Lily Would Date Prongs

R.J. Lupin to the tune of If Mama Was Married from Gypsy

James and Lily still haven't gone out yet, and Remus, Sirius and Peter really want them to. But for quite different reasons. Remus wants them to so James will be more mature and nice, Sirius wants them to go out because he thinks they'll make the best couple and their romance lives will be very good, and Peter wants them to go out so James will stop talking endlessly about how he'll get Lily to date him. On the grounds, after another failed attempt by James to get Lily to go out, Lily walks off, James sets off for the castle, and the other three Marauders sigh at their friend.

PETER: (spoken)
Again she says no!
SIRIUS: (spoken)
That really stinks. She better say 'yes' one of these days. It's for her own good.
REMUS: (spoken)
More than ever I wish Lily would go out with Prongs...he could learn so much from her...
SIRIUS: (spoken)
He could have so many good times with her...
PETER: (spoken)
He could stop talking about her..

REMUS:
If Lily would date Prongs then maybe she'd find
How nicely he could rearrange
A kind gentleman who's polite and refined
No hexing or rumpling, oh yes he would change
If Lily would date Prongs

SIRIUS:
If Lily would date Prongs, together they'd be
The best couple ever in school
Their true love would stay like it doesn't with me
It would stay forever, they'd redefine cool
If Lily would date Prongs

PETER:
Lily, just give him a chance
REMUS:
He'd stop pulling pants
SIRIUS:
Think of the romance
PETER:
Lily, just go on the date
REMUS:
He'd behave so great
SIRIUS:
Your love lives can't wait

REMUS, SIRIUS and PETER:
Oh Lily, just try
You'll soon find that you love the guy
SIRIUS:
The romance would heat up
PETER:
For once he might shut up
REMUS:
He'd mature not just on display
REMUS, SIRIUS, and PETER:
Oh Lily, go date Prongs today!

PETER:
If Lily would date Prongs, there wouldn't be anymore...

Peter rumples his hair and starts acting like James "Ah, fair red-haired Lily
Yes, she is for me
Soon she will be mine
We'll kiss all the time
(spoken) Oh my Lily, there's no flower more beautiful!"

REMUS:
Lily, you'll smarten his brain
SIRIUS:
You'll own lover's lane
PETER:
His friends will stay sane
REMUS, SIRIUS and PETER:
Lily
It would be so sweet
Why can't you see that it would be a treat?

Why can't you say "yes"
It wouldn't be that hard to say
'Cause Prongs has kept asking
And asking
And asking
And Lily just slaps him away

Oh Lily
Oh Lily
Oh Lily
Go date Prongs today!

The Lov'ly Lily E.

A filk by R.J. Lupin to the tune of Rock 'N Roll Party Queen from the original Broadway version of Grease

SCENE: James once again makes an effort to get Lily to like him. This time, he has tried writing her a song, and has asked Sirius to sing it with him only for the benefit of getting a cool harmony. Also, James decides to try calling Lily as 'Lily E.' instead of 'Evans'. Well, that, or he found that 'Evans' just didn't fit in the song.

JAMES and SIRIUS
La la la la, la la la
La la la la la la la la la

Once again do you know who I see?
The prettiest girl there could be
I tell you, she's the girl for me
Ah- ah- ah
The lov'ly Lily E.

Gotta hex and she's gotta shout
What will come next?, I wish was "go out"
Oh tell me just what is it about
Ah- ah- ah
The lov'ly Lily E.

Lily, Lily, my flower
Can we have a date tonight?
I am sure in less than an hour
You're gonna know I'm so right (My- my- my- my)

You're the girl that ev'ryone knows
Makes her mind hear wherever she goes
Would you say "yes" if I propose?
Just me and
The lov'ly Lily E.

Oh- oh- oh- oh- oh, you should see
Her grade on the latest test
And then when I got mad at Snivelly
She made sure she bruised my chest (My- my- my- my)

Walkin' and a shockin' lov'ly Lily E
Come on, I'm not a jock
Hey, Lily E.!
Know I love you so, oh Lily E.
You're my flower, sweet and sour
Lily E.!

Lily Turned Down James Again

A filk by R.J. Lupin to the tune of Maxwell's Silver Hammer by The Beatles

I know that Canon never mentions Lily actually hitting James after he asks her out, but I just thought it would be a fun touch.

JAMES:
Thought I had a shot
So I gave it all I got
Which was such a lot
Had my hair already prepared right there- oh oh oh
Said she's beautiful
Cheeky but still dutiful
We'd be quite the pair
"Can I take you out on a date Lily?"- oh oh oh
I thought that surely she would agree
But what happened to me?

SIRIUS, REMUS and PETER:
Slap! Slap!
Lily turned down James again in a violent way
Slap! Slap!
Lily turned down James again just like ev'ry day

JAMES:
Came back 'round again
Lily said "Oh not again"
She was so annoyed
But I felt something new would happen then- en- en- en
Threw on all my charm
Then I offered her my arm
Yeah, I was a smarm
But I knew she'd have to say "I'll date you"- ooh ooh ooh
But what I thought would now be a "yes"
What happened- well, you guess

SIRIUS, REMUS and PETER:
Smack! Smack!
Lily turned down James again in a violent way
Smack! Smack!
Lily turned down James again just like ev'ry day

JAMES:
Kind of now fed-up
But I never will give up
I will carry on
Even if she looks at me like frog spawn- oh oh oh
Pete and Remus say
"Please don't ask her out today"
Pad says "Ask away!"
SIRIUS:
Make her say "Okay!"
JAMES:
Though she'll say "no" I always will love her so- oh oh oh
And what's the gift you get for your love?
Another push and shove!

SIRIUS, REMUS and PETER:
Punch! Punch!
Lily turned down James again in a violent way (du du du du du du)
Punch! Punch!
Lily turned down James again just like ev'ry day
Woh woh woh
Du du du du du du

LILY passes by, and so the four attempt to get her to say 'yes' to JAMES

JAMES, SIRIUS, REMUS and PETER:
Please say "yay" not "nay"!

And we hear the sounds of a 'Slap! Slap!

She Said Yes

A filk by R.J. Lupin to the tune of Hello, Goodbye by The Beatles

It's another of my Marauder filks to Beatles songs, just because I think the two work so nice together. This song goes to the tune of 'Hello, Goodbye', and takes place in the 7th year right after Lily says that yes, she'll go out with James. Or rather, that's what James heard, when actually she had only said something along the lines of "Okay, I'll give you a try"...

JAMES: (and SIRIUS, REMUS, and PETER)
To Lily
I said "See
Love for thee
Will last eternally"
Oh
Oh, oh

I asked her out
And she didn't shout
What's this about?
I cannot guess but could care less
'Cause she said "yes"
We're going out!
I'm such a mess since she said yes
Yet I've no stress

She said "Well
It seems strange
I can't tell
But I think that you've changed"
Oh, oh

She said "You know
With you I will go" (James and Lily, could it now be?)
And now it's so! (James and Lily)
I cannot guess why now's the yes
But could care less (James and Lily, could it now be?)
'Cause I'm her beau! (James and Lily)
I'm such a mess since she said yes (James and Lily)
Yet I've no stress

Oh, oh
And now today
It's going my way
What can I say?
And though I guess she gave me stress
I could care less
It's all okay
I'm such a mess since she said yes
Yet I've no stress

Waste no time (Is he fine?)
Dates to do (This Prongs is so new)
She is mine (But it's time)
And now my dream's come true (And we're glad for you)
Ooh, ooh

I asked her out
And she didn't shout
What's this about?
I cannot guess but could care less
'Cause she said yes
We're going out!
I cannot guess why now's the yes
But could care less
We're going out!
I cannot guess why now's the yes
But she said "Yes..."
Said "Yes"!

SIRIUS, REMUS, and PETER, who are still shocked by this news but nevertheless happy, break out into a little victory chant

SIRIUS, REMUS, and PETER:
James, he i-is with Lily!
James, he i-is with Lily!
James, he i-is with Lily

And they repeat this over and over. A lot.

Once in Love With Lily

A filk by Pippin to the tune of Once in Love with Amy by Frank Loesser, from the 1948 film Where's Charley?

(with apologies for movie and fanon contamination)

ENTER SNAPE and LUPIN, tapdancing in top hats and tails

BOTH:
Once in love with Lily, always in love with Lily
Ever and ever, like a glowing ember, we will all remember the flame

SNAPE:
Once you're dissed by Lily, there's no resist-ing Lily
Ply her with potions, poetry, devotions, she's in your affections to stay

That's why I hate that little Harry Potter, he's got her green eyes
I tried to save poor Lily from the slaughter, but she got fried.

But once in love with Lily, always in love with Lily
Willy or nilly, she's my favorite filly, trouble is the answer will be
That Lily is as dead as she can be.

BOTH:
Once in love with Lily, always in love with Lily
Ever and ever, like a glowing ember, we will all remember the flame.

LUPIN:
Once in love with Lily, she was there for me, my Lily
Werewolf or human, still my love was bloomin, when the moon was full or on wane

No more was I a fickle-hearted lone wolf, my own wolf to stay
If Lily only loved me like a brother, still that's okay [sobs]

From beyond a certain veil, the voice of James joins in

ALL:
Once in love with Lily, always in love with Lily
Ever and ever, like a glowing ember, we will all remember the flame

JAMES:
Once you're dissed by Lily, there's no resist-ing Lily
Scribbled her initial, then made it official, Padfoot was the best man that day

Once I was but a moonlit midnight rover, a bully, a berk
Lily made me stop and think it over, now I'm no jerk

But once in love with Lily, always in love with Lily
Ever and ever, we will be together, sorry guys the answer will be
That Lily'd rather stay in love with me.

Another James

by Salazar to the tune of Another Day from the musical Rent.

The Scene: SNAPE's office. He is looking at a picture of HARRY with abject loathing.

SNAPE
Who do you think you are?
Barging in with that disgusting scar?
Little proud cad,
He's like his damn dad!
He's gotta go
He should know he's just another fad!

(To the picture) Take your glasses,
Take your smile
That look you have
Is just too vile!
Yeah, take your hair in its tangles,
Lily's eyes,
Out of my sight!

They'll expel him
They'll expel him
They'll expel him
They should! Damn!

Another brat
Another prick
His head has got too fat
He really makes me tick.
It's true, his dad and he
Have somewhat different names
But he looks to me
Just like another James!
Another James!

The disembodied voice of LILY EVANS begins to sing in SNAPE's head.

LILY
My boy's no fool
He's not his dad
He looks like him
But he's not bad.
You're being foolish
He is my son
He isn't someone you should shun.
Do not be mean
Do not be cruel
Your mind's designed
To think that he's a fool
He's shattered your
Complacency.
See me in Harry!

SNAPE shakes his head viciously, trying to get rid of LILY's voice.

SNAPE
Don't listen
To Lily's voice
When she picked out James,
She made a really fatal choice.
And this child
Is a rotten kid
Don't forget
What your bullies at Hogwarts did!
Long ago, you were somebody she spurned
But now you're in charge
And all that pain can be returned!

The little jerk
The little prig
He doesn't do his work
His head has got too big.
I'll see his schooling done
I will not play his games
He isn't Lily's son!
He's just another James!
Another James!

LILY
He's not his dad
He's just a child
If you are cruel
My mem'ry's defiled!
He is alright
He has to be!
See me in Harry!

(simultaneous with below)
You must control
Your bitterness
Reject your hate
Try to fix this mess.

SNAPE (simultaneous with above)
Control your anger…
I won't, unless…
He proves unworthy of hate.
It's too much stress!

LILY (simultaneous with below)
He's not a jerk
He's not your foe
He's not a sot
His goodness must show.
He is my son
He is, completely!

SNAPE (simultaneous with below)
Who do you think you are
Showing me her eyes under that scar?
His vanity
Should be quelled promptly!

LILY
See me in Harry!

SNAPE
A prig of the first degree!

LILY
See me in Harry!

SNAPE
Take your glasses,
Take your damn scar!

LILY
See me in Harry!

SNAPE
Take your green eyes,
Your cocky smile,
Your smarminess!

LILY
See me in Harry!

SNAPE
Another brat, another drip
Another rat whose luck must slip!

LILY
See me in Harry!

SNAPE
Another Black, with cocky aims
Another hack, another James!

LILY
See me in Harry!

James and Lily's Son

A filk by Pixieberry to the tune of Mother Nature's Son by the Beatles

HARRY:
Marked, a poor young orphan boy, James and Lily's son
Here to thwart the plans of Voldemort for everyone.

See a stygian creature there, what a big surprise!
Listen to the wing-beat of the thestral as he flies.

Find me with my group of friends, James and Lily's son.
Ron, Hermione, they both stay beside me till we've won.

James and Lily's son...

Mother's Love

A filk by Lilac to the tune of Landslide by Stevie Nicks

NOTE: This song is based on the theory that LILY performed some sort of spell for Harry's protection and that there is a prediction that Harry will be the one to bring down Voldemort, thereby saving the Wizarding World.

The Scene: Godric's Hollow, in one-year-old Harry's bedroom. LILY is performing a spell that will protect Harry should she die saving his life. As she is doing so, she is pondering the unsure future for her son, knowing that he will not have it easy. LILY also shows her true Gryffindor colors during this scene by being willing to do what needs to be done even though she is afraid...the true meaning of courage.

LILY:
I take my love and point my wand
And I give this love that knows no bounds.
I can see my reflection in my young son's eyes.
May this love-charm him surround.

Oh, will my child know his mother's love?
Can this child within my arms rise above?
Will his days be full of hurtful strife?
Can he handle the challenge of his life?
Mmhmmm, I don't know...
Mmhmmm, I hope so...

Well, I'm so afraid of dying,
but I know it'll save your life.
And if it saves you,
you will save others, too...
perhaps all wizard-kind.
Yes, you'll save wizard-kind. So...

She is now rocking a subdued Harry while humming during this guitar interlude

Though I'm so afraid of dying,
It's what I am willing to do
My love's never ending,
time I am spending
is precious here with you.
Yes, my darling one, we two.

So, here's my love, little one,
for the mountains you must climb if I'm not around.
I can see my reflection in your bright green eyes...
may this keep you safe and sound.

And, if you see my reflection in your bright green eyes...
Know I'm always with you now.

The Best Hope Wizards Have

A filk by Darrin to the tune of Last Night of the World from Miss Saigon.

THE SCENE: Lily and James, having been tipped off the Voldemort is coming after them, make plans for protecting their baby.

JAMES:
Look at Harry sleeping in peace
Doesn't have a care in the least
We must guard him
We must guard him

LILY:
He is safe with a mother's love
The strongest force that I can think of
It will save him
It will save him

JAMES:
Why on Earth did we let Peter in?

LILY:
Sirius thought it would be the best way to win.

JAMES:
We'll be safe here as long
As Peter holds on

Tonight
We will protect our baby boy
A strapping boy

LILY:
A handsome boy

BOTH:
A child that will survive
If we do not

We will protect our baby boy
Not only here
But when we're ghosts
Someday
He'll the best hope
Wizards have.

JAMES:
On the other side of the door
I can hear the fiend Voldemort
I will fight him

LILY:
I'll wait for you

JAMES:
Run Lily, I will hold him off
Keeping running and do not stop

BOTH:
It looks like Peter gave in
We're not going to live

Tonight
We will protect our baby boy
A strapping boy
A handsome boy
A boy that is the best
of both of us
We will protect our baby boy
Not only here
But when we're ghosts
Someday
He'll be the best hope
Wizards have

LILY:
James
What happened to you?

JAMES (dying):
Lily
It's now all up to you

BOTH:
Voldemort will kill us both
But Harry will
Avenge

Tonight
We will protect our baby boy
Don't cry Harry
We're always here
You are the best hope
Wizards have.

Lily

A filk by Catherine Johnson based on Vincent (Starry, Starry Night) by Don McLean

HARRY:
Night so long ago
Events that I can scarce recall
The evil Dark Lord came to call
With killing me as his eventual goal
Father bravely fought
But though he tried, he finally fell
And then you faced him down, as well
And held me till you drew your final breath

Now I understand
What you did when you saved me
How, with your last act of humanity
You died, but set me free
A mother's love
The ancient spell
That kept me safe and well

But I did not know
Growing up I was not told
About your final act, so bold
Was lied to 'bout my parents' final fate

I'm not sure that they knew
They didn't care to find out why
They were happy that you died
A "freak" to them, but surely not to me

Now I understand
What you did when you saved me
How, with your last act of humanity
You died, but set me free
A mother's love
The ancient spell
That kept me safe and well

He said that he would spare you
But your love for me was true
So when no hope was left in sight
On that dark and tragic night
You gave your life, for what else could you do?
And I've never told you, Mother,
There's no one in this world that means as much to me as you

Now my life goes on
I live because of your brave act
I find some comfort in that fact
And will not let your effort be in vain
Now wizards I have met
And now I know the truth at last
About what happened in my past
And thinking of your love will guide me on

For now I understand
What you did when you saved me
How, with your last act of humanity
You died, but set me free
A mother's love
So pure and true

I live because of you...

Remember James

A filk by Prankaholic to the tune of Yellow River by Lou Christie

SIRIUS:
Mischievous guy with untidy hair
All the pranks that we used to share
There was nothing that we wouldn't dare
I do remember

Many people did we provoke
Many rules of the school we broke
Under your invisibility cloak
I still rememeber

I remember
I remember the memories that will reminisce
I remember
I remember my best friend ever I will always miss

Once when Snape got in our way
you hung him upside down
We could talk through our mirrors
When one of us weren't around
Oh, I remember

Couldn't stand my parents's prejudice so
I ran away, but didn't know where to go
Your parents took me in as one of their own
I remember

So Lily Evans fell for you in the end
You made me your best man on your wedding back then
From now on your son I will always defend
'Cause I remember

I remember
I remember the memories that will reminisce
I remember
I remember my best friend ever I will always miss

I guess the memories of you is all that I have left
To keep you in my mind I will make sure not to forget
I will remember

I remember
I remember the memories that will reminisce
I remember
I remember my best friend ever I will always miss

The Last Waltz

A filk by Susan Hall to the tune of Lily, Rosemary, & The Jack of Hearts

WARNING: This filk contains non-canonical material, and some scenes of shipwreck.

The Leaving Ball was over; the trunks were packed for the train
As it dipped below the Forest, the full moon was setting in the rain.
Along the road from Hogsmeade, up by the moated grange
Three waited for a stag, who'd been acting mighty strange.
No, they couldn't go no further
Without the Jack of Hearts.
............................................................................
Upstairs in the staff-room, they settled down with brandy and cigars
Trelawney was missing; looking for the fates inside the stars
The MOM said "damn fine do," McGonagall raised a glass
Asking for the Governors to toast the the leaving class
With all its wicked pranksters
None wickeder than the Jack of Hearts
............................................................................
Downstairs in the common room Lily sat sobbing in a chair
Her eyes a wounded animal's, hidden by her falls of red-gold hair
She'd danced each dance in pride and hate, as if she didn't care
The man she loved had stood her up, and wasn't even there
And in her rage she'd pledged herself -
But not to the Jack of Hearts.
..................................................................
Lucius was on the Board; the youngest since Salazar was there
Evil rumours followed him, but Lucy-boy was just too rich to care
It was whispered all around Big V had had a fling
No-one had ever come between Lucy and the King
And no-one ever would
Except maybe
The lover of the Jack of Hearts.
............................................................................
"Snakeblood " breathed a weary voice, the door it swung open wide
On sodden satin slippers Narcissa limped her lovely way inside
"Oh! Sorry to disturb you, with coming in so late
Oh Lily, what's the matter? What got you in this state?
No man's worth that - now, dry your eyes - you mustn't let it show-
Here - borrow mine - it's still quite clean - that's right, a proper blow -"

And Lily knew the handkerchief
She'd given to the Jack of Hearts.
............................................................................
In the firelight the Tarot cards lay scattered on the floor
Narcissa picked the pack up, cut, and dealt the cards once more
Lily showed her hand, and both of them could see
Le Prince d'Acquitaine dans le tour abolie
And from the pile of discards
Missing was the Jack of Hearts.
............................................................................
Along the crowded platform shuffled an embarrassed bit of air
Invisibly, it dodged its friends, trying to pretend it wasn't there
It nipped past Lucius standing there, with Lily's ring to hand
It lurked among the shadows, hiding from a truth it couldn't stand.

It could hide from anyone
Except of course the Jack of Hearts.
............................................................................
No-one knows what happened, but they say that it happened pretty quick
The door to a carriage swung open and a wand was seen to flick
A confundus charm came blasting out, and Lucius lost the ring
Followed by some memory charms, so no-one could remember any thing
Then Lily was on the platform
Left snogging with the Jack of Hearts
............................................................................
Narcissa on her wedding day was dressed in white and gold
Her eyes were hard as diamonds; her lips were marble white and cold
And when she said "I do" to Luce she didn't even blink
The MOM proposed the toast, she heard the glasses clink
But Lucy-boy would never know the all of what
She'd given to the Jack of Hearts.

Explanatory note: "Le Prince d'Acquitaine dans le tour abolie" is the second line of a sonnet by Gerald de Nerval which begins "Je suis le tenebrae, le veuf, l'inconsole" ("I am the shadowman, the widower, the unconsolable one") . The broken tower is one of the Major Arcana of the Tarot pack. On one level it symbolises the shattering of illusions and the revealing of enemies, and the maxim that truth is great and will prevail. Of course, it also in this case symbolises the destruction of the house at Godric's Hollow, in Lily's future. The Prince of Acquitaine is probably the King of Swords in the Tarot pack, and symbolises the use of one's abilities and the importance of staying close to those who truly care about one. It foreshadows Harry's being left as the sole survivor in the wreck of Godric's Hollow. As divination is a very imprecise science, each girl interprets the hand in a completely opposite way and neither of them suspect the Godric's Hollow stuff at all.

For anyone who is interested, Narcissa's own hand was Death, The Lovers and the nine of Swords, all reversed, but it was too difficult to make that scan.

Second explanatory note: If anyone considers the first explanatory note to be excessively pretentious I commend to him or her the sleeve notes to Blood on The Tracks.

Potter's Mom

A filk by Lindsay Addison to the tune of Stacy's Mom by Foutains of Wayne

SNAPE:
Potter's mom had got it goin' on
Potter's mom had got it goin' on
Potter's mom had got it goin' on
Potter's mom had got it goin' on

Lily, want to study by the lake (by the lake)
And see the potions I can make? (potions I make)
Did James get back from his Quidditch match? (Quidditch match)
Did you go or do you believe I'm a better catch? (a better catch)

You know, I'm not as greasy as I may seem to be.
I'd wash my hair now, baby can't you see.

Potter's mom had got it goin' on.
She was all I wanted and I waited for so long--
Lily could never see she was the girl for me.
Yeah, James thought it wrong, but I'm still in love with Potter's mom.

Potter's mom had got it goin' on
Potter's mom had got it goin' on

Lily, do you remember the times James attacked me? (attacked me)
His friends came out and laughed with glee. (with glee)
I could tell she liked me from the way she glared
And the way she shouted and told James he had erred.

And I know you think it was just my fantasy
But with a jerk like James, Lily could have used a guy like me.

Potter's mom had got it goin' on.
She was all I wanted and I waited for so long--
Lily could never see she was the girl for me.
Yeah, James thought it wrong, but I'm still in love with Potter's mom.

Lily Couldn't Know

A filk by Literary Luminary to the tune of Mary, Did You Know? by Mark Lowry and Buddy Greene.

Lily couldn't know
That her baby boy would stand against the Dark Lord.
Lily couldn't know
That her baby boy would be both praised and deplored.
Couldn't know that her baby boy was marked by prophecy.
His innocent perfection was all that she could see.

Lily couldn't know
That her baby boy would end up with her sister.
Lily couldn't know
Of his loneliness-how every year he'd miss her.
Couldn't know all the bitter pain his future held in store.
She saw everything she'd dreamed of, and couldn't wish for more.

Oh, Lily couldn't know.

Wizard and witch
Cried 'Savior!'
This much time would show:
Lily's child,
Meek and mild
From babe to man would grow.

Lily couldn't know
That her baby boy would be a hero peerless.
Lily couldn't know
That her baby boy would charge toward danger, fearless.
Couldn't know-but her baby boy would still survive the night,
And shielded by her sacrifice, would save the Light.
