A filk by Pippin to the tune of the Notre Dame Fight Song
Fight songs are an American college football tradition. Each team has one. At games they are played by marching bands and sung by the fans. I agree that Gryffindor should have one, although as I understand it there are no such things as Quidditch cheerleaders.
Cheer, cheer for Old Gryffindor
Wake up the House Elves cheering for more,
Catch the Golden Snitch on high,
Cheer down the Bludgers from the sky,
What though the odds be great or small
Gryffindor Lions will win over all,
While our loyal Seeker's flying Onward to Victory.
A filk by Lisa I. on my own beloved University of Tulsa's fight song--this song was written by Ben Henneke, undergrad in the 30's, President in the 50's, and was Professor Emeritus until his death in 2009.
Needless to say, I was in TU's Marching Band. Piccolo.
Down the pitch to victory
On Lions on!
Fight on till the Snitch we see
Battle on and on!
Beat out the Keeper, oh Lions,
Score on mounting score,
Bludge all the Chasers and Seekers,
Let that Lion roar!
Drive those [opponents] off their heads,
Fight 'em, Lions, fight!
Brave gold and red,
Go right ahead,
Grab the Snitch for victory!
A filk by Gail to the tune of U of M's The Victors
Ah...Quidditch season draws nigh...and for me, there's nothing quite like the sound of a marching band practicing on the field in anticipation for the first game. If Hogwarts had a marching band (as well they should!) perhaps they'd play this filk...to the tune of The Victors, otherwise known as The University of Michigan Fight Song
Let's hear it for the Hufflepuff DUFFERS (Don't Underestimate Fiercely Faithful, Especially Resourceful Students)!!!! Thanks Nicole for the acronym...you're the most!
Now raise a cheer, they are here victorious
Here they come on broomsticks flying
Precision moves, death defying
With shouts of victory crying
We huzzah! huzzah! We greet you now
Hail!
Far we their praises sing
For the Golden Snitch they've caught us
Loud let the bells they ring
For here they come on broomsticks flying
Far we their praises tell
For the Golden Snitch they've caught us
Loud let the bells they ring
For here they come on broomsticks flying
Here they come, huzzah!
Hail! to the victors valiant
Hail! to the Quidditch heroes
Hail! Hail! to Hufflepuff
The leaders of the sport
Hail! to the victors valiant
Hail! to the Quidditch heroes
Hail! Hail! to Hufflepuff
The champions of Hogwarts
We cheer them again
We cheer and cheer again
For Hufflepuff we cheer for Hufflepuff
We cheer with all our strength
We cheer cheer cheer
With all our strength we cheer
Hail! to the victors valiant
Hail! to the Quidditch heroes
Hail! Hail! to Hufflepuff
The champions of Hogwarts
A filk by Ellen Anglin to the tune of the MSU Fight song
Hrmph!
Well!
If the Hufflepuffs have grabbed the U of M fight song, then I guess it's only right for me to suggest the Michigan State University fight song for the Slytherins - after all, the colors are most appropriate... (Well UofM has Gold as one of their colors, and Badgers and Wolverines are pretty durn similar. Now what does that say about snakes and Spartans?)
In the hallowed halls of Hogwarts,
Is a house that's known to all;
Its specialty is winning,
And the Hiss its battle call
Slytherin teams are never beaten,
Our ambitions keep us keen
Fighting for the only colors,
Silver and Green.
Grab a win for Slytherin,
Watch the plot keep thick'ning
We don't care if it's obscene, ends justify the means
RAH! RAH! RAH!
See their team is weakening,
We will finesse this game.
Fight! Might! Rah! Makes right!
Victory for Slytherin!
A filk by Nicole Lyon (who may not be the World's Greatest HP Fan but she is the World's Greatest Spartan Fan and Alum and has the dog named Sparty to prove it) to the tune of the Michigan State University fight song
Ellen, while your original filk was brilliant, I found myself begging Harry-style, "Not Slytherin, not Slytherin! So I was compelled to re-filk the MSU fight song for Gryffindor.
On the banks of the great black lake
Lies the Gryffindor Tower
They're brave at heart and daring
Unmatched in Quidditch power
Gryffindor seekers have keen sight
Their Beaters are so bold
Noble are their house colors
Red and gold
Glory for great Gryffindor
Watch their Chasers flying
Gryffindor will win the match
The golden Snitch they'll snatch
Fly, fly, fly
Keeper blocks the Quaffle pass
Beaters the Bludgers bash!
Fly, fly, rah team fly
Victory for Gryffindor!
A filk by Mariner to the tune of Tom Lehrer's Fight Fiercely, Harvard
There have been a number of House fight songs, all done to the tune of the Michigan Fight Song. That's all well and good, of
course, but it occurs to me that for Slytherin House, nothing but the
best will do, and that means...
Cheat boldly, Slytherin, cheat, cheat, cheat!
Commit at least a hundred fouls.
There is no glory in defeat,
So make the opposition howl!
And we will celebrate our victory,
We'll string up Potter from the nearest tree. (How jolly!)
Knock their Keeper off his broom,
And cheat, cheat, cheat!
Cheat boldly, Slytherin, cheat, cheat, cheat!
Break every rule that's in the book.
The other teams don't stand a chance,
We'll beat them all by hook or crook.
We'll do it, whatever it takes us to win!
We're gonna grab that Cup for Slytherin! (We'll steal it!)
Steal their playbook, hex their brooms,
And cheat, cheat, cheat!
That's what we're best at!
Cheat, cheat, cheat!
Just don't get caught, though!
Cheat, cheat, cheat!
A filk by Gail to the tune of the Texas Tech Fight Song
Ravenclaws! I'm surprised at you! It's almost been a week and we haven't heard from you? Well, being the magnanimous Hufflepuff that I am, here's a fight song for the Claws :)>
Fly Eagles fly!
Fly Eagles fly!
Fight for the House we love so dearly
Beaters hit 'em high
Beaters hit 'em low
Throw the Quaffle through the goal
Ravenclaw!
We'll praise her name
Boost her to fame
Fly for the Bronze and the Blue
Beaters hit 'em, Chasers score 'em
Hit 'em, score 'em, Ravenclaw 'em!
A filk by Lilac to the tune Utah Man from my Alma Mater, the U of U.
Our color is crimson, so I had to write it for Gryffindor!
ALL THE GRYFFINDORS:
I am a Gryffindor, sir, and we're sure that you'll agree
Our house, it is the bravest bunch that you have ever seen
Our Quidditch team is priceless, each teammate's a shining star
Our yell, you hear it ringing 'round the turrets of Hogwarts:
CHORUS
Who am I sir? A Gryffindor am I.
A Gryffindor, sir, and will be 'till I die!
We're up to snuff, we never bluff, we're game for any fuss
No other Quidditch teams at school dare meet us in the muss.
So fill your lungs and sing it out and shout it to the sky,
We'll fight for dear ol' red and gold, a Gryffindor am I!
CHORUS
And when we go to take our place right at the battle's front
We arm ourselves and as a group our foes we will confront
No matter what they throw at us we'll bravely stand our ground
Our enemies admit we are the bravest gang around.
CHORUS
We may not live forever on this jolly good old sphere
But while we do we'll live courageously in spite of fear
And when our Hogwart's days are o'er and night is drawing nigh
With parting breath we'll sing this song, "A Gryffindor am I!"
A filk by Tann to the tune of The Sons of the Gamboliers, as used for the Georgia Tech (Boo!) fight song
I'm a lad/lass, hurrah! from Ravenclaw, and an awf'ly good wizard, too!
Just hand me a broom, and give me some room & I'll fly for the Bronze and Blue.
For goal after goal at Quidditch, I'll pitch my Quaffle through!
I'm a lad/lass, hurrah! from Ravenclaw, and an awf'ly good wizard, too!
If a Butterbeer were foaming here in a tankard near Hagrid's size,
I'd lift up my glass and give it a toss to Ravenclaws deep and wise.
I'd shout Rowena Ravenclaw, ta!, skoal! and here's to you!
And I'd toast our lovely Lady Grey in bumpers till after two!
Oh, the Lions old in red and gold, are bold and will guard your back;
And a Badger as friend will true to the end, so here's to the yellow and black!
The Serpents' hiss, I'd give it a miss, their green and their silver too
But the best of the best is the Eagles' Nest, and the banner of Bronze and Blue!
So let's give a cheer for Hogwarts dear, and the Eyrie of Ravenclaw,
For charming Master Flitwick, and our dear old Dumbledore,
And for the team like Eagles scream, as Eagles are wont to do:
I'm a lad/lass, hurrah! from Ravenclaw, and an awf'ly good wizard, too!
A filk by Eric Oppen to the tune of The Mickey Mouse Club Song
We're the Hogwarts students, the cleverest, it's true!
R-A-V, E-N-C, L-A-Double-You!
If you aren't smart you're kept apart, it's just too bad for you!
R-A-V, E-N-C, L-A-Double-You!
Ravenclaw!
Ravens rule!
Ravenclaw!
Others drool!
Our IQs, OWLs and NEWT scores are all high,
High, high, high!
So tag along and watch us do things no one else can do,
R-A-V,
(Ve haff vays of finding t'ings out!)
E-N-C,
(See how clever we are?)
L-A-Double-You!
A filk by Meg D. to the tune of Grand Ole Flag
Scene: Celebrating another victory over Slytherin on the Quidditch pitch, the Gryffindors head to their common room for the party. Fred and George start chanting as they walk up the hill towards the school.
We're the Gryffindors
We're all courageous and brave
We're the house with the most on the ball
From our cozy red tower to our scarves of gold
We're always tops over all
Everyone stands tall to the gold lion's call
We're the best house anywhere
Though other houses may fade away
The Gryffindors are here to stay.
Salute!
They continue to chant as they get closer to the building, ignoring the grumpy faces of the Slytherins as they pass.
A filk by Kayla Rudbek to the tune of the Notre Dame Victory March
Rally, House of Ravenclaw!
Mens et corpus sine a flaw!
Raise up the Bronze and Blue
Cheering with voices true
Rowena Ravenclaw!
We will fight in ev-ry game,
Strong of heart and true to her name
We will ne'er forget her
And will cheer her ever
Rah, rah for Ravenclaw!
Chorus:
Cheer, cheer for House Ravenclaw,
Studies and sports, oh we do them all,
Send the spells and charms on high,
Shake down the thunder from the sky.
What though the odds be great or small
House Ravenclaw will win over all,
While her loyal sons and daughters fly on to victory.
Optional: Fly on to victory for Ravenclaw! Spoken: Go Eagles!
A filk by Eric Oppen to the tune of The Ranger Fight Song (Scotland the Brave)
I wanted to do a Harry Potter filksong that would be as scary to listen to as Heather Alexander's March of Cambreath, with its chorus of "How many of them can we make die?"
(from the Voldemort War)
Slaughter the evil wizards
We'll cut out all their gizzards
Onward, the Blue-and-Yellow
Up, Ravenclaw, and at 'em!
Death Eaters will be dead
Their bones ground to make our bread
Onward, the Blue-and-Yellow
Up, Ravenclaw! Singing:
(Chorus)
Blast, blast down each Death Eater
Send them down to defeat or
Send them to Azkaban or
Send them to Hell forever!
We will never give them mercy
They were bad, we'll treat them worse, see?
Onward, the Blue-and-Yellow,
Up, Ravenclaw!
With wands and spells we'll fight our battle
Pound their heads till their teeth rattle,
Not leave them their eyes to cry with,
Or their tongues to say "Goodbye" with!
They will all feel our spells' lashes,
When we're done they'll all be ashes!
On with the Blue-and-Yellow,
Up, Ravenclaw! Singing:
(Chorus)
Ravenclaw, the home of knowledge,
Smartest students of this college,
Calls her girls and boys to war,
Like it's often been before!
Bloodlust sends us on a bender,
We don't know the word "surrender!"
On with the Blue-and-Yellow,
Up, Ravenclaw! Singing:
(Chorus)
This song is an original by me, J.Lynn. I'd try to give you a tune for it, but it changes everytime I sing it. So, as Professor Dumbledore would say, pick your favorite tune and sing along:
Sung During or Before Quidditch Matches by the Students,Teams, and Faculty of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry
On, on with honor,
To the Quidditch pitch.
Fly for your House team,
Catch the Golden Snitch.
Victory will find you,
In your robes of gold or green,
Possibly of red or blue,
Flying for your team.
Hogwarts will cheer you on,
No matter how you do.
You may have broken both your legs,
Or come back black and blue.
Beat those bludgers back, my lads,
And lasses catch the Snitch.
You're bound to win the Quidditch Cup,
On the Hogwarts Pitch.
So
On, On with honor,
To the Quidditch Pitch.
Fly for your House team,
Catch the Golden Snitch.
